Pregnancy care and the care of babies & children has always been a love for our Chiropractor Dr Kate. Dr Kate began chiropractic care as child herself and after feeling the benefits, she felt compeleld to help others in the same way that she had been helped. Dr Kate has completed several courses and seminars in pregnancy & paediatric care allowing her to offer you support, education and care during this exciting time of pregnancy for women in Melbourne. Dr Kate is also undertaking post graduate studies, and is in the process of completing a 2 year diplomate of Chiropractic Paediatric Neurological Development.
Dr Kate is humbled to be in a position to help and to offer comfort to your new baby, potentially making their early days with breastfeeding, settling and sleep easier. Many babies come into this world having experienced birth trauma, which may hinder their development (because of such things as neck pain that causes fussing during tummy time).
We look forward to helping you and your family.
A natural delivery alone can be traumatic to a newborn, let alone a delivery that involves medical intervention such as caesarean section, forceps, vacuum and manual distraction. Such interventions can often leave a baby with mild to severe injuries and can in some cases lead to problems such as jaw pain/bruising, neck pain/limited range of motion, breastfeeding/attachment issues (due to neck and jaw pain), and unsettledness (due to discomfort).
Dr Kate is trained to assess and treat your newborn or infant for spinal, pelvic and cranial/dural dysfunction, which may allow them to grow and develop with more comfort and ease. In our practice, the Chiropractic adjustments to a new born are very gentle involving only finger pressure, such as if you were to test the ripeness of an avocado. Young babies, infants and toddlers are not manually adjusted at our clinic.
Chiropractic care continues to be an important part of your toddler and young child's life. With the stress of the birthing process, the bumps and falls encountered with learning to sit, crawl, walk and then the strain caused by sport, posture and school. A child's spine and nervous system can experience a great deal of strain and stress leading to vertebral subluxation (spinal dysfunction and 'misalignment'). Regular chiropractic check ups can identify postural problems associated with growing and may in turn be corrected early on.
The adjusting procedures used on children at our clinic are also gentle and modified appropriately in order to respect the small structure of your child. We have a large family treatment room that is equipt with an abundance of toys and books to entertain the kids whilst they are there.
A woman's body and posture changes significantly during pregnancy, adapting as a baby grows. Most women will at some stage during their pregnancy experience pain in the back or pelvis, muscular niggles in their lower back, pubic area and pelvis, rib and upper back discomfort and sciatica. With Chiropractic care can we aim to improve and restore correct movement in your body to reduce your discomfort and improve your movement and function.
Chiropractic care during pregnancy can offer a pregnant women greater comfort, and a smoother experience due to improved comfort levels. Our chiropractors use techniques that are gentle to help restore proper pelvic function and balance for pregnant women.
